Isn’t it time?

It's time to bring student voices (I wonder why...?) into the language learning process.

What is Inquiry-Based Learning?

  • Student-Driven: Inquiry-based learning shifts the focus from teacher-led instruction to student-led exploration.

  • Questioning and Investigation: Students are encouraged to ask questions, investigate topics, and seek answers through research and experimentation.

  • Real-World Connections: It connects learning to real-world scenarios and problems, making it more relevant and engaging.

  • Critical Thinking: It promotes critical thinking, problem-solving, and communication skills.

  • Active Learning: Students become active participants in their learning, rather than passive recipients of information.

How to Implement Inquiry-Based Learning in LOTE:

  • Start with Questions: Begin lessons with thought-provoking questions or scenarios related to the target language and culture.

  • Encourage Exploration: Allow students to explore language concepts, vocabulary, and grammar through various activities, such as role-playing, discussions, and projects.

  • Facilitate Research: Guide students in researching topics related to the target language and culture, using a variety of resources.

  • Promote Communication: Encourage students to communicate their findings and ideas in the target language, both orally and in writing.

  • Provide Feedback: Offer constructive feedback to students on their language use and understanding, helping them to refine their skills.

  • Reflect on Learning: Encourage students to reflect on their learning process and what they have learned.

Benefits of Inquiry-Based Learning in LOTE:

Students are more engaged when they are actively involved in their learning.

  • Deeper Understanding:

Inquiry-based learning helps students develop a deeper understanding of language concepts and cultural contexts.

  • Motivation:

Students are more motivated when they are given the opportunity to explore their own interests and questions.

  • Real-World Application:

It helps students connect language learning to real-world situations and applications.
